Main asset

Very good resistance to urban conditions, pollution, aridity and poor soil, short pruning. Can be pruned in treillis. Also used as firewood or for paper.

Remarks

3 fungi diseases are found on plane trees : powdery mildew (white felting), anthracnose (brownish young leaves and shoots, in humid weather) and canker stain. This last disease, lethal for the tree, was introduced in 1945 in the Marseilles region by contaminated wooden crates coming from the United States. It spreads by contact or by pruning tools, which must be disinfected between each tree.

Large, deciduous alignment tree, fertile hybrid of Platanus occidentalis x P. orientalis, discovered in the 17th century in England, and widely used in the 19th and 20th century in road and street alignments, due to its easy propagation and rapid growth.
