Main asset

Native shrub with edible fruits, hosting an important auxiliary fauna. It is widely used in hedgerows.

European shrub or small tree with multiple trunks forming a tuft of 10-12 branches up to 3-4 m. The leaves are deciduous, heart-shaped toothed with a tip. Male catkins of 6 cm, yellowish, appear in February-March ; female flowers spikes are erected.

The hazelnut is an edible fruit. It contains a single seed, the almond. It is protected by an involucre before maturity (bracts).
