Main asset

Very large flowers regularly shaped (Ø 15 cm with 6-12 petals per flower), very bright, before the leaves. Associate it with white or yellow flowers in the same period (Narcissus, Daffodils, Epimedium, Coronilla, Cytisus scoparius) to create a contrasted scene.

Remarks

Recent selection from New-Zealand, Magnolia 'Genie' is more compact and less high than 'Black Tulip', and much more floriferous. It is suitable for small gardens. The flower color is darker and stable.

Sapho

Large deciduous pyramidal shrub (3 m at 10 years). Spectacular flowering in early April, composed of very large bright purple tulip-shaped flowers.

A small rise of flowers can take place in late spring and summer, if the soil is sufficiently moist. The flowers are slightly fragrant.
